GREEN COVE SPRINGS | When his son called him Sunday to say he loved him, there was something in his voice that he knew wasn’t right.
“He said ‘Daddy I really love you,’ ” Michael Edmonds said. “And I said ‘Mikey, don’t do this.’ And he said ‘Daddy, I can’t deal with this. It just hurts too much.’ ”
Then he got another call. This time it sounded like his son was having second thoughts.

ENGLEWOOD, COLO. — Tim Tebow needs more R&R than anyone thought.
The Broncos quarterback played through rib, lung and chest injuries he sustained in Denver’s 45-10 loss at New England in the AFC divisional playoffs last weekend.
He won’t need surgery, is expected to make a full recovery with some down time, and his offseason training program shouldn’t be affected in any way.

Following a tumultuous week that featured the pending sale of the team, the firing of the head coach and a three-year extension for the general manager, the Jaguars will exhale Monday night.
They will catch their breath and play in prime time against the San Diego Chargers at EverBank Field.
Interim coach Mel Tucker makes his head coaching debut. Whether he lasts five games or more will depend on how quickly he can turn around his offensively challenged 3-8 team.

The Jacksonville Jaguars placed defensive back William Middleton on injured reserve Saturday with a knee injury.Middleton practiced with the team Thursday afternoon, then showed up on the injury report with a hamstring ailment. It isn't known when the 25-year-old suffered the injury.Middleton finishes his season with 38 tackles, an interception and three passes defended.Jones was released by the club with an injury settlement prior to the start of the season. He may be in the mix as a starter with Middleton, Rashean Mathis and Derek Cox all lost for the season.Jones, 26, made five starts for Jacksonville in 2010.

The city of Los Angeles needs an NFL football team. For a league that is as successful as the NFL is, it is absolutely crazy to think that L.A. is still on the outside looking in. Yes, there are stadium issues. Yes, it has failed before. Twice. But
