The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office will hold a news conference at 1 p.m. today about the recent murder of a 67-year-old Southside woman.
A woman was arrested in the case on Saturday in South Carolina.
Michele O'Dowd was found dead by a family member in her home off Hodges Boulevard shortly before 9 a.m. Friday. The family member became concerned about O'Dowd when she did not show up for work that day.
The woman arrested in the case was Patty Michelle White, 37, who was described by police as an acquaintance of O'Dowd.

Self-proclaimed “White House Boy” Marshall Drawdy wasn’t a bit surprised when he heard the news that a federal probe shows abuse at a now-closed reform school in the Panhandle amounted to violations of the U.S. Constitution.
The Jacksonville resident simply wishes authorities would have decided that earlier to help more people like him.

Working at the Port of Jacksonville as part of the International Longshoremen's Association was a lot different when Lloyd Ford started there in 1947 from today.
The ILA Local 1408 held a news conference Friday morning as part of the union’s 75th anniversary. Awards in appreciation of service were given to retired Jacksonville port workers Ford and Fred McKelvin. Former state Sen. Betty Holzendorf, whose father also worked as a longshoreman in Jacksonville, also received a plaque.
Romia Johnson, president of ILA 1408, said the union was an economic engine for Northeast Florida...

Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. and CMA CGM Group, the world’s second and third-largest container shipping companies, have agreed to form a partnership, a joint news release said.
CMA CGM, based in France, calls on Jacksonville’s port for its service from Asia and the Caribbean. MSC calls on the Hamburg Sud terminal at Talleyrand Terminal at the port, the Business Journal reported in 2009.
The broad-based operating agreement is expected to span several trades, including Asia-Northern Europe, Asia-Southern Africa and all of the South American markets...

An international real estate firm is expanding into Jacksonville with an agreement with a local company.
In a news release Thursday, NAI Global officials announced they are partnering with Hallmark Partners, Inc. in Jacksonville. Hallmark will still keep its own clients, but the agreement with NAI Global is spawning a new subsidiary called NAI Hallmark Partners.
