If Mike Mularkey hadn’t changed in the seven years since he was last an NFL head coach, Maurice Jones-Drew’s absence from the Jaguars voluntary organized team activities would be driving him crazy.
But one thing he’s learned as an NFL coach is, there’s a limit to what he can control.
“I [used to] let little things that I had no control over suck the energy out of me,” Mularkey said. “At this job you’ve got to have a high energy tank and I’m not going to let that happen this time around.”

One more team turned down HBO’s “Hard Knocks” on Thursday.
The Houston Chronicle reported the Texans said no thanks to the behind-the-scenes show that depicts teams during training camp. The Texans join the Jets, Redskins, 49ers and Falcons as teams that have declined to be on the show.
This process of elimination could lead to the Jaguars appearing on the HBO show for the first time. Jacksonville participated in a similar program that aired on NFL Network in 2004. The Jaguars have said they would be willing to be the subject of the show.

When asked about the team's learning curve this year, linebacker Clint Session didn't talk about his own side of the ball. Instead, his mind went right to the biggest change he's seen on the field.
"I have never seen an offense since I've been here as precise and as accurate as they are now," said Session, who came to the Jaguars last year in free agency. "I don't want to toot their horn, but they're looking like the greatest show on turf compared to what it was last year. I'm excited about that."
Safety Dawan Landry, too, saw a difference.

The day he took over as the owner of the Jaguars, Shad Khan talked about regionalizing the franchise and courting fans from outside Jacksonville.
Today the Jaguars announced they are sending players, alumni, coaches and cheerleaders all over south Georgia and north Florida in a traveling RV.
Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey, a Florida alumnus, is scheduled to attend the caravan trip to Gainesville.
Fred Taylor will make the Gainesville and Volusia County stops, Bethune Cookman alumni Rashean Mathis and Ryan Davis will also go to Volusia county.

Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey is saying there’s not going to be a competition for the starting quarterback position in training camp. But Blaine Gabbert has the attitude that he is still competing.
“I compete every practice,” he said. “I know perfect isn’t really ever achievable, but I like to think it is. I’m plenty competitive and I get really mad at myself, just like anybody would if you expect it to be perfect. When you miss a throw, miss something easy that you know you can make, the biggest thing is you just have to bounce back.”

The Jaguars started their second organized team activity of the week in a light rain Wednesday, but coach Mike Mularkey said they actually had a better practice than they did on Tuesday.
Mularkey said it was good to get a chance to work in the rain and added, “It was cooler and the guys were flying around.”
But Mularkey said that even though the Jaguars have only had to move one practice indoors, the weather has been a topic of discussion for each practice.
The players didn’t seem to mind the poor weather Wednesday.

Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey said Tuesday that running back Maurice Jones-Drew, who is skipping the team’s voluntary offseason workout program, wants a contract extension.
“I’m in the coaching end of these matters, and I’ve talked to him about football and what I can do on the field and in the locker room,” Mularkey said.

The Jaguars fired long-time equipment manager Drew Hampton before the team’s first week of organized team activities. The reason was unclear and the Jaguars declined to comment on the decision.
Hampton had been the Jaguars equipment manager since 1998, when Tom Coughlin was the Jaguars’ coach. He was the assistant equipment manager in 1997. In 2004, his peers elected him the NFL’s equipment manager of the year.

The Jaguars have fired long-time equipment manager Drew Hampton.
Hampton has been Jacksonville's equipment manager since 1998 after serving as the assistant equipment manager in 1997 and has been a fixture with the team. He's developed close relationships with several players during that time.
Hampton comes from a family of equipment managers. His father was a long-time equipment manager for the New York Jets.
