Kevin Na works hard for share of Players Championship lead

Kevin Na is a big believer that the adage that you drive for the show and putt for the dough doesn't apply to the TPC Sawgrass Players Stadium Course. To win The Players Championship, he said it's imperative to keep it out of the rough, water and trees.

He carved a 3-under-par 69 on Friday that could have been better if he had hit more than five of 14 fairways.

South Korean Sung Kang bounces back at The Players

Sung Kang refused to accept the implications of starting The Players Championship on Thursday with a quadruple-8 at his first hole. An eagle-3 at No. 2 quickly got him back on track — and in a better frame of mind.

"I was only 2 over after two holes," he said after a 4-under 68 earned him a weekend tee time at the TPC Sawgrass Players Stadium Course. "That's how I looked at it. I wasn't worried after that."

Automotive legend Carroll Shelby dead at age 89

A legendary racer and sports car maker has died amid the 50th anniversary celebration of the car that made him famous.

Autoweek magazine is reporting that Carroll Shelby died Thursday night at Baylor Hospital in Dallas at age 89.

Shelby, who had been battling pneumonia in recent months and had been forced to cancel an appearance at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in mid-March, was the father of the AC Cobra sports car.

Jacksonville Beach police release more information about vehicle in Thursday hit-and-run

A bicyclist suffered serious head injuries after he was struck by a driver Thursday night who fled the scene, Jacksonville Beach police said.

The man was crossing Third Street North at 13th Avenue North about 10:45 p.m. when he was struck by a car, said spokesman Sgt. Thomas Bingham.

Bingham said the motorist was northbound driving about 60 mph in a 35-mph speed zone. She was in a red or maroon, 1990s BMW 3 Series that was later located and seized by police. No arrest has been made, however.

Adult bicyclist dead after being struck by Duval school bus

A 30-year-old bicyclist died this morning after riding into the path of a Jacksonville school bus in the 11000 block of Atlantic Boulevard, police said.

The accident occurred about 6:15 a.m. at the entrance to the Sutton Oaks subdivision off Atlantic Boulevard in East Arlington, said Officer Melissa Bujeda, a Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.

Jose S. Jimenes, who lived in an Atlantic Boulevard apartment complex, was hit by the bus turning into the subdivison. The bus, occupied by four students from Atlantic Coast High School, had the right-of-way, Bujeda said.

An investigation has determined there was no foul play in the death of Claude Robinson, found lifeless less than a week before his 39th birthday in his home on Bennett Street, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

180,000 non-residents could be registered to vote in Florida

Tallahassee | An estimated 180,000 non-U.S. residents are registered to vote in Florida, according to state records. It’s a tightly held secret not shared with county election officials or the state’s election chief even after he took the job.

The large number of non-residents potentially on state voter rolls was first identified in early 2011 when the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles turned over residency information to the Department of State.

A Fed-Ex truck crash in the parking lot of the Remington Apartments at 611 Ponte Vedra Lakes Blvd. has left its driver hospitalized in life-threatening condition, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

Semi catches fire on I-95 in St. Augustine, ignites cargo of 7 Volkswagens

A semi's cargo of Volkswagen Jettas is now toast after the truck's brake assembly caught fire on Interstate 95 in St. Augustine Thursday morning.

One of the southbound lanes of the interstate just north of the St. Augustine outlet mall will be closed until noon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

After the driver noticed the fire, he pulled over to the shoulder and unsuccessfully attempted to extinguish the fire.

The blaze spread to the cars it was hauling and caused about $140,000 in damage, according to the report.

The driver was not injured.
