Glynn County wants to slice Brunswick’s share of sales tax pie
BRUNSWICK - Glynn County wants to cut Brunswick's share of a 1-cent sales tax nearly in half.
The city's slice of the $18 million annual pie from the local option sales tax stands at 35 percent, with the county getting the rest. But County Administrator Alan Ours told a joint meeting of city and county commissions and their staffs Monday that the city should receive only 19 percent when a new agreement takes effect on Jan. 1.
By law, a new agreement must be negotiated after every U.S. Census so cities and counties can take new population numbers into account.
